Operation: Get My Act Together!

Hi everyone, and thanks for the very kind comments on my last post regarding my breakup.  I really appreciate your thoughts and consideration - you are a lovely lot.  I have finally got round to replying to each one, here on the blog, as well as your comments on the few posts before which were outstanding.

Now... as the title of this post suggests... I need to start getting my shi act together!  The breakup was six and a half weeks ago, and the Lumberjack moved out a week and a half ago, once he'd sorted somewhere to live.  As I said things are pleasant and amicable, so there is no nastiness or any issues there.  I'm actually doing fine, but when I'm not seeing friends or family, I have a tendency to become a bit of a vegetable.  I'm not moping or anything, just being extremely lazy!!  I just can't be bothered to get anything done.  So, that's gotta stop!  Here is the plan...

1. Get Creating Again

a. Pick up this cross stitch again... I started it years ago!

b. Make some progress with my cotton stripy blanket, and get those ends sewn in.  I had been sewing them in as I went, but let it slide a bit.  I started this blanket in September 2013 and am yet to reach the two thirds mark - need to get a move on!

c. Perhaps start (and finish!) some smaller makes, for some quick wins.

2. Get Organised

a. Finally get the craft room in a fit state to be both used and shown here on the blog!  It has become a bit of a dumping ground, and I have to tip-toe through the layer of clutter on the floor to get anything!  I will show you pictures, to shame myself into acting!  (In theory...!)

Lucky enough to have a craft room and yet I have treated it like this - bad bad me!

b. Sort out paperwork which is currently piling up in various places, and try to keep on top of it.

3. Decorate

a.  The conservatory.  It needs tidying, organising, decorating, and furnishing... then maybe I can start to sit in it before it becomes too cold and wintery!  It is a junk/DIY room at the moment, as you can see...

b. The Utility Nook - you saw a sneak peak here.  I need to finish it!

c. The downstairs toilet - I won't scare you with a picture!

Hmm... perhaps this list is pretty ambitious - to go from doing nothing to all this!  Well, we'll see how I get on - I'll keep you updated on Operation 'Get My Act Together'!

  1. I would personally start with the blanket. Does not require a lot of activity really and it is TV friendly... When the blanket is finished I would continue with the conservatory.. even if you are not finished until well into autumn in there you then have a brand new snuggly blanket for your new lovely glass room! Winwin! And cozy.. Think candles!! Craft rooms live their own lives - either from craftiness and a lot of vip:s or from turning into dumping grounds. In my experience they look nice for about a day. I use my door a lot! That is my advice in that matter. Anway shout if you need any help. Anna xx

    1. I have indeed made a start with the blanket - although only two rows completed, but better than nothing! Progress is progress! Ha, and I like the door option on the craft room - definitely the way to go! xx

  3. I am sorry, I haven't read your earlier posts. You have got a lovely place for crafting and organising that would help organize your heart and mind again. Love the cross stitch design and the blanket.
I have a link party 'Messy to Classy' where I encourage organising crafty things. If interested, you may link your post with before and after picture of your craft room. There is a separate tab on my blog for the same.

  4. "getting your act together" is a great plan and is a positive course of action isn't it, it is what I would do in your circumstance - and what I did do when I was in that circumstance. I cannot remember what I said before, but I am going back to check for your reply in a moment, but know that you will be good at the end of this and that you will come through and that a new and different life awaits you! It doesn't mean that the old one was bad, you just take what you had, remember it fondly and move on, so the "getting your act together" plan exemplifies that beautifully I think. Well done you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Big hugs!!!!!!! xx

  5. Well done. Recognising that you need a plan of action and drawing it up are a big first step. I like that you put the creative activities at the head of your list - a good sense of priority. Keep up the good work.

  6. One step at a time, that's all you can do. You will get though though, it just takes time that's all.

  7. Fantastic plan! Of course it is over-ambitious - we're all guilty of doing giant To-Do Lists when at a crossroads in life, it's cathartic to take stock! But I betcha you'll accomplish all of this and more! Cx

  8. Ugh, I feel your pain. I too have a list of stuff I should be doing instead of Netflixing, but, couch. At the moment our spare bedroom is our dumping ground for all of the chaos. I just close the door and breath heavily.

I always start with the smaller things and work up. Even within one room, I say to myself, "Okay, I'm going to organise that drawer", and if I have enough mental energy by the end, I do the next drawer, or the next cupboard, or the other half of the room. We're so used to seeing things done with before and after pictures, I think we give ourselves unrealistic expectations. So what if it takes you 6 months to do it? As long as you're making progress, that's all that matters.

Or in 6 months you could still be sat in front of Netflix. No judgement. ;)

    1. Exactly! I can take as long as I take, what does it matter?! I make the rules! I need to add some tiny tasks so they're quick to tick off I think - like you say, start with the smaller things. At the moment, I'm not doing a lot of anything!
